Have
you ever had to wait on something or somebody? Waiting can be a really
challenging thing. I've spent this past week in constant waiting mode.
First, we were waiting on my brother's vital signs to return within a
normal range so he would be strong enough for surgery. Then, we were
waiting on the doctor to schedule his surgery. Next, we were waiting on
the surgery. As I write this blog, we are waiting on my brother to come
out of surgery.
This may be your season of waiting. The truth is we do not like to
wait. Waiting frustrates us. But, if we allow ourselves to reflect in
times of waiting, we will discover strength and power that we never
fully realized we possessed. As I ministered to my brother by his bed
side, I read these words from Isaiah 40:29-31 "He giveth power to the
faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the
youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they
shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary;
and they shall walk, and not faint."
Isaiah teaches us that God wants to give us a brand new kind of
strength. When you have run out of gas: emotionally, physically -- and
spiritually.. waiting is one of the ways that God refills our tank.
Waiting is one of the ways God uses to help you and I to get recharged
and refilled spiritually. I need it and you need it to.
I need that kind of strength in my life. Walking, enduring, but not
wearing out. Running, giving out great amounts of energy, but not
wearing out. And mounting up with wings like an eagle, doing things I
never thought I could do because of God's strength through waiting.
Waiting forces us to stop so that God can give us all that we need for
the journey we are facing. And we all need that sometimes.
Finally,
waiting prepares you for what comes after the test. The doctor said to
my brother, "the quickest way to recovery is to just get up. Don't just
lie in the bed. Get up! Even if you are feeling weak. When you get up
you will feel much better." Whatever test you are facing, remember that
you are not waiting on the Lord, you are waiting in the Lord! So receive God's strength by faith and then when it's all said and done, get up!! |
